Message From the PastorRev. Daniel Thueson FUMC Mountain Home Family, thank you for your wonderful welcome. Though I am still unpacking boxes, this move has given me an opportunity to reflect. If moving does anything, it forces one to take inventory. We collect so much stuff. We don’t realize it as it happens, it just happens. Before we know it, our homes, lives, and even our faith journey are full of clutter. I’m pretty sure we all could do a little uncluttering. Gradually. Slowly. A little here and a little there. Usually we get something to make life easier, more comfortable, or to fulfill our sense of satisfaction. Then it happens in our schedule, too. We decide to have that after hours work meeting, then there’s the party at the friend’s, then we have practice three nights a week, a game two nights a week, that TV show we love to watch, and as summer approaches we want to go to the lake or the beach or on that camping trip. Eventually, we scheduled our faith life completely out of our life. One Sunday morning we wake up at noon and wonder why things are going so well but seem so off. Stephen Covey, author of Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, says to schedule your priorities not prioritize your schedule. Meaning, make what’s most important to you the priority of your life. Make time for that and let the other things fill in around it. It’s like the container full of balls and sand. If I try to fill the container with the sand, the little stuff, and then put the balls in, the big stuff, I will never have room for it all. However, If I put the big stuff in first, then the little stuff can fill in all the gaps in between. That way, I can actually make room, space, and time for all that is important as well as some of the what’s not as important but sometimes really fun. Jesus said it best like this in Matthew 6:33, “But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” If we make sure we put God first in our lives, spend time in prayer, reading the scriptures, participating in worship, and serving one another, then all that other stuff will find its place. I’ve learned that time is our most precious gift. It’s more important than money or achievements. If I use my time wisely, I experience more God, more love, and life is better. Grace and peace, Pastor Daniel For more infomation visit:

Blessing of the BackpacksSunday, August 15th As the summer winds down, we begin thinking of school bells ringing, chalkboards being cleaned, pencils being sharpened to a perfect point and all the other things that come with the start of the school year. With the last school year came many challenges for teachers, students and parents but we made it through. And that is in part because of God's answers to the many prayers for strength and guidance through this unpreceidented time. Our educators worked tirelessly to find creative solutions to challenges they faced in keeping our children's education. We owe them a great deal of thanks. This year we would like to bless not only the backpacks of the students, but also the students themselves and the educators. Sunday, August 14th we will be doing the blessing of the backpacks at each service. All students are encouraged to bring their backpacks to worship that day to be blessed. Each student will recieve a backpack tag to place on their backpack as a reminder of God’s presence with them at school and the prayers of their church family too. We will pray oover the students and educators an ask God to equip them with all they need for a wonderful 2021/22 school year. |

Save Your Can TabsTabs Benefit Hackler Intermediate School With the start of the new school year coming up this month, it's a good time to remind everyone about our can tab collection program. Many Hackler Intermediate School students in need look forward to the help you give by collecting catnaps for recycling. The money received from the recycling center helps school personal purchase supplies for the student in need such as foo, school supplies, tooth brushes, haircuts and occasionally lunch. Please keep your can tabs from, fruit, vegetables, soda, dog or cat food, etc. and bring them to the church office. A big thank you to everyone who has already contributed. |
Youth Ministries605 Student Ministry Dear Church Family, When I sat down to write this newsletter article, I had a plan. I would say a few words about my experience here, maybe make it super sweet and sentimental, shed some tears, send it to Laura. But there are only two words that keep coming to mind: Thank you. Thank you for welcoming me into your church family. First United Church of Mountain Home is a gem. You welcomed me in ways that I couldn’t expect and I am so thankful that this place was my home during two of the hardest years of my life. Thank you for allowing me to serve. Serving the youth of Mountain Home for two years have allowed me to follow my call and developed a new passion. The youth here are so special and I have so blessed to serve these teenagers. I have been so blessed to not only serve the youth, but also all of youth through leading in worship with the Praise Band and in the Handbell Choir. I have fallen back in love with music and I am so thankful that this congregation offers so many different forms of worship, allowing people to worship God in so many different ways. Thank you for supporting me in this decision to follow God’s call away. This is hard and scary and was one of the hardest decisions I had to make. I don’t know God’s plan, but I do know this: God has someone so special on their way to First United Methodist Church of Mountain Home. God has big plans for this congregation and this person in on their way to you. He knows exactly what the youth needs, and is working in that person right now to get them here. God is working in Mountain Home and in First United Methodist Church. I am so thankful that I have been able to spend the past two years here. Thank you for everything you have done for me, for your church, and for God. Please be in prayer for the Youth Ministry here as they work through these transitions. Many Blessings, Join 605 Student Ministries on Social Media!
